Guest guest
Well, this is an interesting topic. I don't have an official answer for you, but can share my personal experience. Since changing to raw (in Feb) my cycles have been shorter, lighter and less painful but they have also been very consistent. You may have already answered this, but have you done a pregancy test? Guest guest
Dude. Me too. I thought I might have been pregnant last month, but I took 4 pregnancy tests, including one at a proper clinic, and they're all negative. I missed my period last month. It's never happened before. But I am pretty new to raw foods--at least in the percentage of raw that I'm doing now, which last month was very nearly 100%, and now it is 100%. I'm curious what'll happen this month. I remember reading somewhere, can't remember where now, that when you eat healthy like this and you haven't had your first period yet, the age for the first one is way older than what it is in the US--like in the late teens. Wherever I was reading this was referring specifically to Chinese girls. They say menarche and menopause are different from what they are in the US--menarche is later and I think menopause is sooner. Said something like this was healthier because it gives our body less time to be cycling through hormones or something. I don't know, but it's interesting, I should look into it more. I wonder if it's healthy? Hm. Any other insight anyone has on this would be appreciated : ) Jen rawfood , " gypsywolfc " <GypsyWolf wrote: > > I ask because since doing both vegan/raw, i havent had a period in the > 2 months ive been dedicated about living this lifestyle. i am a > healthy girl so there is nothing wrong but i have noticed that fact > obviously! > > i have always been very regular. i noticed after becoming pregnant > with our third child i became more health concious. i stopped eating > red meat & things of that sort. after the birth i decided to continue > a vegatarian diet. i have evolved from that to raw foodist. i started > becoming irregular when i became vegatarian. since going raw, it has > not started. >
Guest guest
I originally learned about raw food back in the 1980's from Ray Kent, a WONDERFUL raw food teacher. He told us that when you go raw, the menses stop. What you are experiencing is normal, normal, normal for a raw foodist. I haven't seen Ray in years but I'll try to find a website for him and pass it along to this list. Not to worry about a thing............Betsy Leah Morrison <l_morrison2002 wrote: Well, this is an interesting topic. I don't have an official answer for you, but can share my personal experience. Guest guest
What percentage body fat do you have? Being raw shouldn't adversely affect your cycle. The two things that come to mind is that if your % body fat gets too low you can stop menstrating and the other is that you might be pregnant :-) Might not be a bad idea to get yourself checked out by a doctor. -Mike --- gypsywolfc <GypsyWolf wrote: > I ask because since doing both vegan/raw, i havent had a period in > the > 2 months ive been dedicated about living this lifestyle. i am a > healthy girl so there is nothing wrong but i have noticed that fact > obviously! > > i have always been very regular. i noticed after becoming pregnant > with our third child i became more health concious. i stopped eating > red meat & things of that sort. after the birth i decided to continue > a vegatarian diet. i have evolved from that to raw foodist. i started > becoming irregular when i became vegatarian. since going raw, it has > not started. > > > > > > > > > >

Guest guest
Interesting.............. does anyone know if a raw diet stops your cycle? My cycle has decreased from seven to two days. Can anyone can help me understand? gypsywolfc <GypsyWolf wrote: 1. ive weighed the same as i did when i was 16! im 5'3.5 & 105. very petite. mother was the same way. never dieted a day in my life. i dont need too so... 2. nope not preggo. 3. dont do dr.s except for pregnancy (i did it to reassure hubby but didnt like a minute of it.) but thanks for the response. i was mainly curious if anyone else experienced this. i have a link i read & it was interesting: http://www.waldorfhomeschoolers.com/menstruation.htm ________ > > What percentage body fat do you have? Guest guest
My body fat is definitely *not* low enough to make me not menstruate. I have lost a significant amount of weight over the past few months--about 25 pounds and it's still going down (I had about 40 to lose..). I'm still not technically in a healthy weight range for my height and build, which is 5'6.5 and light/medium frame. I read that a significant weight loss can make you miss a period, so maybe that was it, although I didn't lose the weight all last month, and had periods regularly during the weight loss in previous months.. I did get much more serious about totally raw in the last month, though, so maybe it was the diet change that did it--from some raw to totally raw. Anyway, the point is I still have enough body fat. And I'm not pregnant. So I don't really get it.. I am /kinda/ worried, but not really. I'll bring it up with my doc whenever the next time I see him is. One thing that crossed my mind, though, was iron deficiency. It'd make sense that if the body doesn't have enough iron it's not going to give up more in frivolous blood loss. Would the totally vegan aspect of raw foodism affect iron in the blood to such an extent? He told us that when you go raw, the menses stop. Thanks for this great info Betsy! It just gets better and better! I've been 100% vegan for four weeks, about 70-80% raw, and this may give me the boost to go 100% raw. I'm almost 49 and just sick of this every month! Am actually have my period now, but it definitely is lighter and ending quicker than it has for the past year. Am also hoping menopause will go much better than what most woman go through. Have read some old posts on that topic and sounds like that will probably be the case. Oh, and I've lost 14 lbs. (of a total of 85) and have not had a single sinus headache since day 1. All these years of suffering with these headaches every time the atmospheric pressure changes, or it gets super hot, and I never knew it was related to dairy products, which I now assume it was. This is a great list and thanks to everyone for sharing all their info/experiences. Susan
Guest guest
I read back when I first started eating raw, in Viktorus Kulvinskas' book that many raw foodists stop menstrating, but do not stop ovulating. My periods have gotten lighter and shorter and I stoped experiencing pms and cramps and mood swings immediately after going raw! Oh what a blessing! Huh!?!?! I'm looking forward to losing them altogether! The explanation I read was that the blood is toxic in cooked food eaters and so the body rejects it. Like someone else said, only domesticated animals on a cooked food diet menstruate! Interesting huh? Animals in the wild do NOT shed their lining, the body reabsorbs it! Your doctor will most likely not have a clue about this and may come up with all kinds of unlikely other reasons why this is happening! It can't hurt to ask him or her though as long as you take what they say in the context that they are not educated in this arena. Unless you are lucky enough to have a raw foodist doctor, and even then, they may not have heard of this yet! Enjoy!!!
