Guest guest
Wednesday October 4, 2006-The Star Put down unwanted animals humanely I AM enraged by the inhumane act depicted in Disgusted's " Shock school shooting<http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2006/10/2/focus/15602059 & sec\ =focus> " (*The Star*, Oct 2). According to Disgusted, the dog posed no danger or harm to anyone. If the very presence or the sight of the defenceless creature bother some people, it could be taken away and transferred to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Ipoh. Why did they have to shoot the dog and subject it to a slow and painful death? I have not seen a single stray dog or cat in Australia. Dogs and cats to the people are more than just pets; they are their best friends that deserve equal treatment as human beings. If the stray animals are pests and affect the reputation and the cleanliness of our country, there has to be a better and more humane way to control their population. Here in Australia, kangaroos are viewed as pests by farmers. Nevertheless, the shooting of these marsupials is protected by " Code of Practice for the Humane Shooting of Kangaroos " endorsed by the Council of Nature Conservation Ministers. Under this code, when shooting a kangaroo, the primary objective must be to achieve instantaneous loss of consciousness and rapid death of the animal without it regaining consciousness. *SYLVIA HSU-CHEN YIP, Canberra, Australia*. Guest guest
I agree with you. I don't understand why anyone there in charge could not think of calling an animal welfare group to rescue the poor, innocent dog. It is beyond my understanding how a group of thinking and presumedly educated people could have acted in such a inhumane and thoughtless way. Aren't there any animal welfare groups in Ipoh city. Can any animal welfare groups come forward and ask complain to this school? Patricia
