Guest guest
Crocodile hunt: Pointless and painful exercise - New Straits Times*04 Oct 2006* MUHAMMAD EDWAN SHAHARIR, Shah Alam <letters ------------------------------ *I JOIN Malaysians in offering our sympathies to Hatta Abidin for the loss of his son to a crocodile a month ago. * Understandably, Hatta is under severe stress, which is one reason that may have led him to butcher a crocodile caught on Sunday in the hope of recovering the remains of his son ( " Dad butchers crocodile in vain " , NST, Oct 2). However, his efforts were in vain. However, I must say that to continue to hunt for the killer crocodile and to cut up more crocodiles to look for his son's remains is a pointless and painful exercise. It has been a month, and crocodiles have extremely powerful digestive juices that will dissolve even bone, thus finding the poor boy's remains would by now have become an impossibility. Thankfully, the Sarawak Forestry Corporation has decided to call off the hunt for the crocodile. The SFC will not allow the slaughter of any more crocodiles. No matter how many bomoh buaya are asked to look for this killer crocodile, it will be pointless. Because even if they catch the killer crocodile, what then? Animals are animals; they are not governed by human morality. Again, my condolences and deepest sympathies to Hatta and his family. But please understand that to continue looking for the crocodile would just cause more damage.
