Poachers have killed as many as six valuable one-horned rhinos in recent months. The Assam government has reacted to that report and taken several steps to crackdown on poachers. Fifty forest guards, also called frontline staff, have been sent to Kaziranga and will take charge in the next 24 hours. Superintendents of police in five districts surrounding Kaziranga and other police officials of that range will form an anti-poaching unit immediately. In addition two companies of home guards will also be patrolling the sanctuary.
