9 hurt in dog attack

Hyderabad, April 17: A stray dog bit nine people including five kids in two

residential colonies of Tri-mulgherry in a 12-hour rampage stretching from

Monday night till it was killed by locals before noon on Tuesday. This is the

fourth incident of stray dogs biting people in less than a month in the city.

The dog bit John, 28, nine-year-old Shekar, six-year-old Varun Teja,

nine-year-old Shiva and Mallesh on Monday night.

A Class II student of St Ann’s, Bolarum, R. Divyanjali, was attacked by the dog

at about 7 am on Tuesday when she went to pluck flowers from near her apartment

in the Indian Airlines Colony. “It attacked my child from behind and then bit

her on the eye,” said Sai Laxmi, the girl’s mother. “She was shocked.”

Divyanjali was rushed to the Institute of Preventive Medicine in Narayanguda,

where she was given anti-rabies vaccine. “Fortunately, her eye was not damaged,”

Ms Laxmi said. Seven-year-old Ronak Agarwal, a Class II student of St Joseph’s

High School in Trimulgherry, was playing outside his house at about 9 am when

the dog pounced on him.

“The dog threw him on to the ground but he kicked it away and ran into the

house,” said his parents Sangeeta and Jitendra Agarwal. “He was bleeding and is

now under observation in a hospital.” R. Shyam, 36, an electrician staying in

Sri Nagar Colony, said that the dog attacked him when he was coming home on

Tuesday morning. “It jumped on me and tore the flesh off my stomach,” he said.

It was only at 11 am that locals chased the dog and beat it to death.

Trimulgherry police reached the spot and requested the civic authorities to

dispose of the dog’s body.
