I'll be in to see you Sat. 23rd. with the large T shirts. On Wednesday we had gathered 1000 signatures (we want 50,000) so (Animal Advocate Lawyer) Sanya took them to BKK along with a letter to Ministry of Culture with a request to change the law to protect our companion animals. He went alone as we respect the martial law order of no gatherings to protest and it is against our compassion campaign to go into opposition of particular parties. Sanya composed a song called; The Question and brought along his guitar and a long banner which he stretched out in front of the Ministry of Culture, which read; Friends or Food? Stop eating cats and dogs! Make it illegal in Thailand to eat cats and dogs! Stop the cruelty! ITV was there to record the historic moment when Sanya sat down on the steps and sang: Fa Fa Fa (it's in Thai) The question - why have I been born? Just so that you may put a noose around my neck and hang me up, to cut my skin and tear it off in pain and then my leg and hand and heart, until finally you cut my soul from me...why I ask that I am born to die..so you may live? Well a huge crowd gathered around and applauded, people cried and Sanya too. The General Secretary accepted the letter with graditude that the public wished to participate in this. The week before the ministry officials had visited Sakon Nakon and witnessed themselves the dog slaughter house where 600,000 dogs get killed and shipped to Vietnam frozen. The officials were horrified about it. They had been given orders from above to inspect the situation and to stop it. A law will be made they said. At least the good news is we have the brass on our side. But how many dogs will suffer before then? We need the public's help. And then how to enforce the law; we will discuss with the police next week. Right now it's important to get them to help protect the street dogs until we can get them all rounded up humanely and officially issue the order to sterilse pets. Any pets wandering on the streets will be at risk of being lost. So tomorrow there will be a feature film on ITV about the dog situation in Thailand and Sanya will appear on that show. In the afternoon Sanya went to deliver a letter to the Ministry of Environment to request they take care of the companion animals in our environment (street dogs & abandoned cats) because the Agriculture Department doesn't care about animal lives, only about economics, how much money they can make on carcasses of animals. Khun Sanya has already visited them several times without any compassionate response. The letter was accepted by the Environment Dept. officials and would be put up for consideration. We will follow up. PET OWNERS BEWARE; Perhaps you could hang up this mail on your wall so your customers can keep abreast with things. MANY PEOPLE TOLD US WHILE WE WERE COLLECTING SIGNATURES ON THE STREET: DOGS ARE DISAPPEARING AROUND THE MARKETS AT NIGHT. Last night at 10 pm two motorcycles came into our village north of Mae Rim. They asked to buy dogs. I found out this morning some villagers nearby sold two strays that hung out with their dogs at night. It's freezing cold weather and those who eat dogs, do it now so there is a big demand. Police arrested 3 men at 11 pm in Borsarng area of San Kamphaeng. They had 40 dog heads and a pile of organs with them. A woman at a local market said some men came at night to her village Mae Onn and killed all the dogs to take them to a restaurant in Chiang Mai Land - where they serve 'chado' (dog meat). A taxi driver in the Night Bazaar said some American men stopped him last Friday and asked to be taken to the place they eat dog. He said he knew they do it in San Patong but was against it, so he told the tourists: Thai people don't eat dog! Please keep collecting signatures. His Majesty has asked that all homeless dogs be given a home this year all over Thailand. The T.A.T. has opened a website www.touranimal.com and they will do a dog caravan tour with concerts in every province to help the dogs! So perhaps, in this year of the dog, AFTERALL there can be some mercy for the poor abused souls who have suffered so deeply. In the meantime, all you dog lovers out there, keep the doggies safe and warm until we can find someone to care for them. We picked up two black three month old female dogs on the street in front of a temple on Wednesday begging for food. One (Dodo) had pneunomia, could hardly stand and was suffering from dehydration and starvation. She just started to eat today. The second (Didi) has been attacked by big dogs, has a bad cold and cough and is also starving. They are now at Love Animal House and will be brought back to health and happiness. (Black dogs are especially sought after. They is supposed to be the best.) Until next report, keep on keeping on...... But one customer wants the XXL T-shirts and left the note at Bake & Bite. I don’t know if my staff told you about this. If not, please ask for the note next time you come. I hope I can be more helpful to this project after this busiest weekend. Seems like the number of signatures is growing. Talk to you later.
