Local news agency KNS said after learning about the killing of the bear by some people, government ordered a probe and directed the police to nab the accused. A case under FIR No. 80/2006 and 8/51 of Wildlife Act was registered. Police swung into action and arrested six villagers after they were identified by the Wildlife officials. Today, the villagers staged demonstrations against the police, accusing them of arresting innocents. Quoting the villagers, the news agency said the killed bear had " spread of reign of terror in the area by injuring many people. " Senior Superintendent of Police Awantipora, Sardar Khan said more arrests will be made. " The villagers say they killed the bear in self-defence.
