Guest guest
ATTEMPT TO MURDER Respected Sir/madam, Today Friday 13th October 2006 Karuna Society for animals and Nature together with Manjunath, International Animal & Birds Welfare Society, Guttur, went to the cattle market in Gorantla to start a medical cattle camp. When our truck arrived at 7AM the vet. Doctor and our assistants started preparations. When I arrived at 7.15AM by car, within 5 minutes, a huge organized mob approached us. First, they damaged the car I was in, but I thought to be safe in the car, they attacked even worse with huge irons, used in roof constructions. The men tore my cloths and I escaped to our Karuna truck, which was also attacked and damaged. All windows are broken and they tried to hit my face with the big irons. One Muslim man helped me out on the other side and I had to run for my life with two of our assistants. They hurled stones on my head and back. Our other attendants and vet. Doctor were also beaten up. My elbow is injured and I am black and blue. Outside the cattle market I ran into a house to hide in a bathroom till the police took me out. This was an organized attack at my person. The police registered a case for attempt to murder and many more things. Arrests are made. What happened before? Since 2002, we have been active on this market without much success. One month ago we went again after the newspaper complained about the cruelty of that market. We discovered that the market is without any authority as the Panchayat and the market management are having a dispute in court. Since 6 month, the place is a free transit point for slaughter animals and to my horror, mainly cows with calves, pregnant cows and many valuable calves are sold for slaughter. They are bought from the farmers in the villages and transported by " small " butchers to Gorantla. There transports are destined for Bangalore, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. During our first visit, we spoke to the concerned authorities and we stressed the point that it was an unlawful situation. At our next visit we came upon a large group of animals all tied up, painted with big letters for identification for the concerned butchers. With the help of the police, we took 41 animals to Karuna and IABWS. The F.I.R. was made. Last week again all concerned authorities were consulted and we decided to conduct medical carp and inform the farmers and transporters. After the rescue of the 41 cattle, I was visited by Mr. K. M. Asadullah (phone No.08554-320009 , cell 9441166252 & 9441575717) official P.A. to Sri G. Nizamuddin, M.P. (Loksabha) and asked me to return the 41 animals to his " farmers " as they had sought help from their representative in Delhi. We gave him a clear picture of the real situation and he told me we could expect difficulties. In Anantapur town is a big cattle market. The big trucks are coming inside the compound to do the overloading for slaughter. No authorities concerned take action. Municipalities, police, check- posts between states, animal husbandry, nothing !!!! Our activities at the grass root level have no meaning if they are not supported by the people responsible and in power.
