FROM THE DESK OF HONY. GEN. SECRETARY: PAWS vaccinates and treats almost a hundred stray dogs in a month against rabies. We require a lot of medicines for our health check -up camps and first aid treatments and treating maggot-wounds. For all this we regularly need medicines like Acralyin Ointment, Himax Lotion, Topicure Spray, Ciplox Eye-Ear Drops, Scabnil Skin Ointment, Topicure Gel, Calendula Mother Tincture, Ivermactin Injections, Gipsona Plaster, Cotton, Gloves,Blunt Scalpels, Chloroform Pure, Deworming Tablets or liquid bottles. We also require Anti-Rabies Vaccines, Tetanus Vaccines. We accept items like unused medicines, dog chains, leash, collars, chews, pet food, bowels, pet carriers, graspers. We are constantly in need of financial help to procure medicines and will be thankful for donations in cash or kind. Thank you for reading this appeal. Your feedback and comments on our monthly newsletters are welcome. Yours for Animals, Nilesh Bhanage Founder Secretary – PAWS .............................................................. 2. SOME NOTABLE FIELD CALLS: ## On the evening of March 17,PAWS volunteer Manasi found a rat tied to a short leash by some cruel people who were teasing it and making it dance on two legs. The poor frightened creature was struggling to escape but these people kept poking a stick in its belly. The plastic rope it was tied to was choking it. While the crowd was enjoying the show, PAWS Secretary rushed to the spot and released the poor rat. This is just to say that although a rat is perceived as lowly and dangerour, people must realize that inflicting pain and torture on any creature is totally sinful and inhumane. ## When a huge female monkey was spotted at a slum near Raunak Park, Thane, the PAWS team swung into action and rescued her after an hour long effort. She was probably abandoned by the ‘madari’ or the owner who kept her as adancing monkey. Anuradha, Nilesh, Kishor and Prasad took the monkey to Bombay SPCA animal hospital as there is no provision to keep monkeys in Thane district. ## When PAWS volunteer Ram Bhatle, Kishor Savle and Sonali Bagde found that the driver of a Qualis willfully mowed down a pup and ran away, they noted the vehicle number and informed PAWS who filed an FIR in Vishunagar police station on 24th of February 2007. A post mortem was conducted on the pup and a case was booked under the ‘PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS ACT OF 1960’. The driver will soon be arrested & produced before the magistrate. Aprt from above cases, Our Ambulances rescue more then 3 distressed animals on an average Every day. This includes cattle, dogs, cats, birds and small reptiles. The cost of the fuel is more then Rs.20,000/- per month.
