Guest guest
‘Collect details of wildlife articles’ by Lalit Mohan Tribune News Service Patiala, June 21 The government has directed the Wildlife Department to provide details of wildlife articles in possession of B.I.S Chahal. Under the amended law 452 applications were moved by VIPs of the state to get ownership certificates of thousands of wildlife articles in their possession. Among those who applied for ownership certificates, included Chahal, his wife Jaswinder Kaur Chahal, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, Capt Amarinder Singh, his wife and Patiala MP Preneet Kaur and Malwinder Singh brother of Amarinder Singh. Chahal onOctober 10 ,2003 applied for ownership certificates for two sofa sets with ivory engraving, three ivory articles and a mounted head of hog dear. Jaswinder Kaur Chahal applied for ownership of two shahtoosh shawls, one ivory box and one ivory table. However, cases for ownership certificates of Chahal and Jaswinder Kaur Chahal have been pending with the DFO (territorial) Patiala since 2003. The DFO neither issued the ownership certificate to them nor confiscated the articles. The articles in possession of the Chahal family pertain to animal (elephant) that is protected under Schedule-I of the Wildlife Protection Act. As per law the owner of wildlife articles cannot move them from the place from where the ownership certificate was issued. If he moves the article information has to be provided to wildlife authorities of the area in three months. In case articles for which Chahal applied the ownership certificate were not found at his Patiala- based house, he is liable for action under the Wildlife Protection Act. http://www.tribuneindia.com/2007/20070622/punjab1.htm#2 Dr.Sandeep K.Jain
