Guest guest
Can anyone please respond for this plea for help that is needed in Pratom, Thailand. I'm a aapn member who is genuine concern about animals and their needless suffering. I'm nowhere near Pratom, Thailand, but I'm sure that there are groups that could help. I have forwarded the message from Pat to some animal werfare groups such HSI, but have not received a reply as of today. I hope someone there is reading this. Guest guest
Dear Patricia, Thank you for your concern. I'd like to give the progress on this incident. The department of livestock development of Thailand has filed a charge on herders who used a hammer to blow the piglets' head to death. I am not sure how serious the punishment will be but at least I hope it will stop them from killing more of these helpless piglets cruelly again as they threatened. Guest guest
Some animal welfare groups could do something such as Thai Animal Guardians Association (www.thaiaga.org <http://www.thaiaga.org/> ) WSPA (they have their regional office in Bangkok) I do not think that HSI or IFAW will do anything. Guest guest
<I do not think that HSI or IFAW will do anything.> 2007 is the 'The year of the PIG' according to the Chinese calendar. Therefore this year they have all the right to demand attention from welfare Giants and animal people. Pigs are kind, honest and peace-loving, pigs dislike arguments or conflicts. Optimistic and expressive, they make great friends because they are compassionate and gentle. They love leisure times and are not in the rat race of making money. Hope help arrives soon ! Guest guest
This killing method of piglets is most common in Thailand, what the farmers did in public is what happens behind the scenes also. Thai slaughterhouses are especially cruel to pigs and cows. There are no standard ways to kill the animals. They suffer for a long time before dying. They watch each other get killed. Unborn calves (a delicacy) are cut out of the mothers stomachs while they are still alive. The butchers cut the ham strings on their hind legs so they collapse, then they cut the baby out, then they hit the mother on the head with a sledge hammer, sometimes many times before they collapse and finally have their throats cut.Buffalo try to escape all the time and get shot on the street by police. Last Friday a buffalo escaped from a slaughterhouse in Chiang Mai, then when chased by a so-called " rescue " truck, it hit a car and was killed instantly. The woman driver and her young daughter were severly injured, as well as a motor cyclist. It was in the news. Everyone is sorry for the people but no one thinks about the poor buffalo. At least she died instantly rather than if she had stayed at the slaughterhouse. Thailand URGENTLY NEEDS ANIMAL WELFARE.
