Guest guest
I think it is quite un fortunate that Banglore is witnessing deaths and injuries every day due to stray dog bites. Now, the question is how can we solve this problem. Even if we do ABC of dogs it will take a long time to control the stray dog population but our concern is that if such instances of human-dog encounter will continue then people will start hating the dogs. As we can see that people anyways don't love stray dogs much and after such incidents they will hate them even more and try to get rid of them. We should look for reasons for such a beastly behavior of dogs and we need to find out a solution for that. Otherwise people will start pelting every dog with stones whether or not it is dangerous. I am not convinced with the reasons given by some people if the dogs are constantly being neutered by the 3 organisations then why are there so many puppies all over the city ? There are so many bitches with litters. If you walk on the streets you find numerous dogs every where, where as in Jaipur only HIS is doing ABC and the results are clearly visible the population of dogs is so less we hardly find puppies on the streets, very less dog bites and no cases of rabies. One more thing Dr.Chinni replied to us and said dogs become docile after ABC, if that is the case then why are these dogs so ferocious ? That means either they are not operated or if they are operated and still behave like that then perhaps Dr.Chinni's observation is wrong. I dont think that just because of meat shops the dogs will behave like that because there are a lot of meat shops in every city and dogs gather round them for food but they would not bite kids just like that, there is some other major reason for this beastly behavior of the dogs which we need to identify and check. For the time being we should first identify the potentially dangerous dogs and catch them. And then shift them to a walled area, to feed these dogs the local Animal welfare organisations can help and even contact some hotels for their left over food. There are so many bitches >with litters. I found bitches with litters in two types of Bangalore neighborhood: # Within the territories covered by the ABC programs, there are areas where construction projects are underway, using laborers recruited from outside the city. The laborers and their families typically camp in nearby vacant lots, with their dogs, and cook outdoors, so that food smells attract dogs. These dogs have not yet been captured and sterilized, because they mostly have not yet been in Bangalore for very long. Some have whelped. # In areas outside the incorporated city limits, which are not yet served by ABC programs. The official city limits are actually well inside the actual boundaries of the built-up areas. One of the latter areas is where the most recent fatality occurred. -- Merritt Clifton Editor, ANIMAL PEOPLE P.O.
