NDTV followed a BBMP van only to see both the dogs and the dogcatchers struggling in the course of their drive. An average of 200 dogs are picked up everyday by lassoing the dogs with metal wires and then pulling them up into the vans. It is a method they have been using for years, and they say that injury cannot be avoided. " You must not forget that these dogs are highly ferocious. We are, however, asking a team in Ahmedabad to demonstrate and teach us other methods, " said Jairaj, Commissioner, Bangalore City. Lack of training Most of the men hired by the BBMP to catch dogs have neither been trained nor do they have an understanding of dog behaviour. In the process, not only do the men have a tough time exercising their duties but even the dogs that are dumped into cages end up being injured and very shaken. The dogs are then transported to packed animal shelters. Just a week ago, NDTV followed a BBMP worker into their parking shed where the dogs had been kept unattended for over two days. The corporation has now thankfully added three new shelters. While the Bangalore Corporation firmly maintains that the dogs only diseased and ferocious dogs are being euthanized and that they being very humane in their approach, the reality at hand speaks otherwise.
