Guest guest
Even from a non-raw perspective, that isn't necessarily true. Breastfeeding women get pregnant all the time without ever having a period. Did you read the article that was posted (the link)? It makes a lot of sense to me, and it lines up with everything else I've heard and read (medically and testimonies) in the last few years. Cindy If you are not menstruating ,then you are not ovulating. Where do you get your information? It seems completely unhealthy to me to not have a cycle. Guest guest
Good morning, Betsy! This is interesting to me, even though I am post- menopause. I have two granddaughters and the oldest is approaching the time in her life where the " Curse " will set in. (That was my most hated time of the month.) I couldn't find anything " scientific " to back it up, but there's lots out there from women's personal experiences that this is true. I found a link http://snipurl.com/sygw that tells more about it. I don't believe that ovulation would cease because the natural bent of things is to propagate the species. It might be that there would be less ovulation to correspond more to the animal world. Dr. Doug Graham says babies are better off being born in the spring. It would be interesting to know if that's what would happen since that's how a lot of the larger animals have their young. Guest guest
Although I am a man and new to this whole Raw Diet thing - I have to weigh on this subject for what it is worth. Logic would reason that it is more " Unnatural " to not have menses that to have it. I am not sure where you are getting your facts from - but the womans body is naturally designed to discharge an egg from your ovaries on a regular (typically a monthly) basis. If fertilization does not occur in the time period of ovulation the body now has to get rid of the unfertilized egg and the lining that was prepared for growing a baby. I agree with the person who said if there is no menses there is no ovulation. I would be more concerned that you are NOT having menses that if you are. Menses occurs because there is a certain level of hormone in your body that tells your ovaries to release an egg. It is more likely that if you are not having menses that you are not ovulating because your body is not able to produce the appropriate amount of estrogens, etc to produce ovulation. If your body is regulated menses should only last a few days and should be a start stop process not a sputtering. Ok - now you ask how I know so much... my wife and I have dealt with infertility for 3 years and I know more about the female body than most Gyno's. I do agree that cooked foods are bad for us, but I dont belive for one minute that they are the reason women menstrates or not. Guest guest
I got an e-mail from Betsy and she asked me to pass this along: " I got my original information from Ray Kent, a prominant and respected raw food teacher back in the 1980's when I attended a few of his raw food seminars. Then, of course, from my own experience of going raw. It is not at all detrimentel to the female reproductive system for menstruation to stop. A lifetime of having it drummed into our heads that it is normal to go through that bleeding horror every month does not make it correct or healthy. Believe me, I found it hard to accept the idea myself, at first. Fertility is in no way threatened and in fact may be enhanced by the healthier lifestyle. Guest guest
I think we can agree to disagree on this... Much of what our body does naturally makes no sense to us. Facts are facts - no menses likely means no ovulation - no ovulation likely means your body is not producing enough hormone for ovulation which is likely attributable to diet. I am all for the raw diet - I just believe it is rather dangerous to tell anyone that it is not natural for the body to do something it was designed to do. It is particularly dangerous to tell someone this if they are arleady struggling with infertility. My wife went with out a menses for 6 months before the doctors realized she was not ovulating. Again, the menses clears the lining that was produced to hold a fertile egg. If there is no egg then the natural process of menses starts. Guest guest
Believe me, Philip, I'm no expert on this. Betsy asked me to pass the message along and I did. As you said, essentially, it doesn't matter what we think or what we believe, the body is going to do what the body is going to do. Sometimes that's good and sometimes it's unsettling. Thank goodness, I'm past that time of life, anyway. Guest guest
I agree with you and believe me I am not an expert either - just well read. It is always important to gather the facts, use common logic, and educate yourself and then do what is right for you. As you said, your body is going to do what it is going to do...
