The AJYCP stated that the hungry herd ravaged fields of winter vegetables and damaged standing paddy crops as it walked its way from Nimati-Hatisal, Mishing gaon, Melengsiga, Biharisiga, Ghonjan, and the saporis and char areas along the Brahmaputra. " Crops worth lakh of rupees have been destroyed and will be an added burden to the poverty ridden people of the area, " an AJYCP member said. " Titaram Das, a farmer of Nimati Sapori lost his bullock and his neighbour's granary and cow shed was destroyed, " the member added. " The poor people can hardly afford to buy another bullock which is essential for ploughing the fields nor rebuild the houses and sheds which are being damaged by these marauding jumbos, " he added. " The AJYCP is maintaining a vigil in the area to protect the villages but the district administration should also take stock of the situation, " he further said.
