Guest guest Posted December 24, 2002 Report Share Posted December 24, 2002 * Exported from MasterCook * Jamaican Jerk Tempeh Recipe By :Jay Solomon: New Year's Eve Smorgasbord (VegTimes) Serving Size : 8 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : LF Holiday New Import Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 4 green onions -- chopped 1 small yellow onion -- chopped 1 teaspoon minced Scotch bonnet pepper (or other chili pepper) 1/4 cup reduced-sodium or regular soy sauce 1/4 cup red wine vinegar 2 tablespoons vegetable oil 2 tablespoons brown sugar 1 teaspoon ground thyme -- (1 Tbs. fresh) 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves 1 pound tempeh -- 1/2-inch cubes Leaf lettuce PREHEAT OVEN to 375 degrees. Combine all ingredients except tempeh and lettuce in a blender or food processor. Process 10 to 15 seconds at high speed. Pour into a 9- by 13-inch casserole or baking pan. Place tempeh in pan and cover with sauce. Bake until tempeh forms a brown crust, 10 to 15 minutes. To serve, remove tempeh from sauce and place on a serving plate lined with leaf lettuce.
