Guest guest
Dear All, Couple of years back a senior IAS ( Indian Administrative Service ) officer of Nagaland Vihili Sekhose, Secretary of Art and Culture Department, Government of Nagaland, a state in India`s northeastern region was caught red-handed along with his driver and colleague poaching Rhesus Macaque primates with several poached monkeys and birds in the protected area adjacent to the prestigious Kaziranga National Park, a world heritage site. It was a commendable effort of Mr. Parthasarthy Das, DFO which ensured that the high profile criminals are not allowed to go free. Check link: http://www.axom.faithweb.com/ecology http://wii.gov.in/envis/paupdates/jpamapril2000.htm A whole lot of arms and ammunition ( enough to wage a war ) was recovered from the gang led by the IAS officer. He was arrested, detained and his car ( a Maruti-Suzuki gypsy Government vehicle ). A case was registered and this man was finally convicted of the offense but surprisingly he was pardoned by the Chief Minister of Assam, Shri Tarun Gogoi for the reasons that he was a patient. Nagaland and its officers are once again in the news now for a similar reason. The horrifying incident of recovery of two Tranquilizer guns seized from poachers in Kaziranga in the wake of the recent rhino poaching which have taken a toll of six rhinos in past one month has been found to be of the Chief Wildlife Warden of Nagaland. Unfortunately the case has not been followed up. See news link below: http://www.ndtv.com/convergence/ndtv/story.aspx?id=NEWEN20070008833 Well this is something that needs to be taken up at the highest office of this country. May I request each one of you to take necessary actions in your capacity to see that the offenders are taken to task. If this be the case with protectors becoming poachers.....what conservation are we talking of ?? regards, Azam Siddiqui
