Guest guest
Dear animal lovers, I would like to bring to your kind notice that 65 KMs from our shelter there is a place called Veerapuram, and every year thousands of painted storks come there for nesting every year in January. In February and March the eggs hatch. In July they return along with their babies. This year they also came and people are always happy to have the birds visit them, the villagers have passed an order that if any one harms the nests are breaks eggs they will be find. Recently because of heavy winds many nests came down along with babies. 5 birds died. The villagers built a cage and looked after 5 babies, but these birds live on little fish which is not available in the area. Our center went to the area and gave treatment to injured birds and chicks. A major problem is lack of funds. To appoint a full time bird watcher to look after the birds and buy fish to feed the birds and chicks and also to provide temporary shelter funds are needed. Having considered the problem being faced by the village, I have suggestions to make · Some bigger animal support organizations should take the responsibility for appointing a full time watcher and for providing fish and medicine to look after the birds when they are in Veerapuram. Any contribution or suggestions will be welcome and we will extend our fullest support to this program.
