Guest guest
*Dear colleagues,* * It is an elementary piece of logic that no statement is true because of the identity of the individual or organisation that makes it. In the same vein, WWF saying elephant polo is not harmful to elephants does not automatically make it so. Granted, WWF is a large and influential organisation. But not even WWF can make an act of animal cruelty sacrosanct merely by issuing a statement. The issue of elephant polo has to be debated independently on the merits/demerits of the game and its wider ramifications on animal rights/welfare/conservation and human safety. As in any debate, WWF would be most welcome to present their arguments in favour of elephant polo on a public platform, an offer that stands valid for any organisation or individual supporting this form of animal exploitation. But it has to be reiterated that the elephant polo proponents will have to address the opposition on the grounds of logic and rationality, not pretend they have attained checkmate by having WWF on their side.* * Best wishes and kind regards,* ** * Sincerely yours, * * Ghosh*
