Guest guest
Some good news and a sigh of temporary relief for the captive elephants of Amber(Jaipur). It seems like Rrajasthan Ggovt coming under severe criticsm from elephant activists and experts have decided to take a pro elephant stand finally. The Tourism Department of Rajasthan has decided to reduce the number of elephant rounds in Amber fort from four(rounds)per day to only two (rounds) per day and that too in the morning hours. The temperature in the city is rising day by day and mercury has already touched 43.5 degree Celsius. Due to this unbearable heat the department had earlier given orders to carry on the elephant rides only in the morning and evening hours. Well, I dare say that the reason behind this benevolence is not pure concern for the gentle giants, actually due to rising temperature in the state the number of tourists has already reduced to almost half in number. So, the thin attendance of tourists and lesser enthusiasm for elephant rides due to the sudden rise in temperatures, is the reason behind this decision. This gesture of the Government could be an indirect way of helping the Jumbos keeping the lower number of tourists in mind and not exactly elephant welfare, but it certainly needs to be appreciated. Atleast it will provide some relief to the poor jumbos for the time being. Hopefully, with all the inputs given from the elephant experts and animal rights activists Rajasthan govt may re-think the usage of captive elephant activities including safaris, rides and may be polo too.
