Guest guest
Link: http://www.sentinelassam.com Many birds fall prey to hunters in Teok Environmental organization wants birds to be protected, guilty to be punished From a Correspondent TEOK, Jan 18: Sharp reactions have been created among nature-lovers and the conscious sections of people in Teok and its adjoining areas as nearly a thousand birds, not migratory ones, were killed at Mahkhuti sapori, Major Daloree and Da-Dhekiakhowa near here, by hunters on Tuesday. It may be mentioned here that the area is a happy hunting ground for birds, both domestic species and the migratory ones. According to information received, birds of various species, including wild ducks, geese, sheldrakes, mallards etc., were apparently poisoned to death by hunters. After the matter came to light, members of a voluntary organization, Katekee, rescued a number of birds from these areas and provided them with necessary medical treatment. But many of these birds did not respond to medication and died. A member of Katekee said that they have identified some of the culprits. An FIR has also been lodged by the voluntary organization at the Lahdoigarh police out post in this regard. Nature-lovers, environment activists and the local people have expressed deep shock over the incident and have asked the Forest Department to undertake special measures to protect these birds from possible poaching in the future. They have also called for exemplary punishment to the guilty.
