Guest guest
Teach children to love all animals-Malaysiakini.com Naidu Jan 5, 07 3:17pm I refer to the letter Dog cruelly beaten by workers. I do not know what the Koran or the Bible states about the treatment of dogs. But I am certain they do not advocate cruelty. Hinduism and Buddhism also respect animals and the environment. They are all creations of God. It is our authorities who take a back seat when it comes to ill-treatment of dogs. Often ill-treatment of dogs is dismissed unless the animal welfare groups protest. Some assume that this world belongs to Man and no other. They do not respect dogs, which to me, show unconditional loyalty and love more than most human beings. We are supposed to be 'advanced' but I do not know what that means. I certainly know that it is not our mentality. We are still selfish, greedy, dishonest, cruel and disregard our animals. Look at how the Western countries treat animals. We are far behind, and soon we may lose sight of the winners. Moral education is about how we live and treat our environment which includes animals and plants. In this sense, our educational programmes are weak. The teaching of love for animals needs an overhaul. The National Geographic and the Discovery channels are helpful at this moment. The authorities and the public should be action-oriented and demonstrate that cruelty to animals does not pay. For a start pack, off those Indonesian 'heroes' who mutilated the defenseless Joy. If they are local, lock them up and make them work in the zoos or in animal-training schools. Unless they search for retribution, I am sure there is no place in heaven for them. For now, congratulations to the people who showered love on Joy, a poor animal that was butchered by group of wild animals called 'people'.
