Dog Bite figures in Bangalore East

 

 

Dear All,

 

We would like to share some good news with you.......Every year we have a

check done by Dr. Susan Shaw , a veterinarian, to collect dog bite

statistics from the 12 medical centers in Bangalore East Zone, which treat

dog bite victims.

 

These include 9 BMP Dispensaries and 3 Referral Hospitals viz. Victoria

Hospital, KIIMS and Isolation Hospital. The latter have dog-bite cases from

all over the State and outside but the dispensaries reflect the reality of

the local situation.

 

Year ending 2006 has been almost dramatic reduction in dogbites from 4 out

of the 9 BMP Dispensaries ( almost 50%)!. These figures are signed and

sealed by the Medical Officer of each establishment.

 

These reflect the ground reality before the tragic culling and displacement

of dogs in March 2007..............In March-April '07, we feel that all the

good work has been undone......Rabies cases have already shown up both in

dogs and humans in Bangalore City.

 

We hope to extract data from the remaining 8 centers (dispensaries and

Hospitals) by the end of April.......to make the case for ABC stronger in

Court and community........!

 

1 – Shantinagar BMP dispensary

2005 : 303 cases

2006 : 180 cases

Reduction : 41%

 

2 – Audugodi dispensary

2005 : 417 cases

2006 : 299 cases

Reduction : 28%

 

3 – Audugodi Koramangla Health centre BMP

2005 : 436

2006 : 299

Reduction 31%

 

4 – Neelsandra dispensary

2005 : 238

2006 : 84

Reduction : 65%
