Guest guest
I should have worded my earlier post better. just to clarify- although bacteria make ALL b12, animals eat bacteria and then have it in their flesh and milk. So you have to confirm with the manufacturer whether their fortified product or supplement is appropriate for vegans or not, ie whether it comes directly from bacteria or is derived from animal products. Although some research has shown that it can be absorbed sublingually, that is, holding a B12 supplement under your tongue and letting it dissolve. > >Peace, >D > > > > > >>yani jeni <yani_jeni >>Nov 16, 2007 3:59 AM >> >> meat nutrition >> >>Dear All, >>A doctor told me that i should let my baby girl ( 16 >>month ) to eat meat cos she will need the nutrition >>till her 5th bday and it cant be replace by others >>also can't be absorb after the 5th birthday. >>But she doesn't explain what nutrition she meant and i >>dont intend to raise any further conversation with >>this doctor. >> >>So, please, is anyone know what nutrition she mean ? >>what nutrition exactly can be get from meat only and >>no other source which is so essensial and can be >>absorb only during 5th year of human life ? >> >>It's so many temptation and challenging about the >>needs of nutrition for my girl from people surrounding >>which sometimes make me wonder if it is ok for me to >>keep her on vegan. >>Am i take the right decision and what ? >> >>though she's good till now but some told me that >>malnutrition can't be detect at so early age, but may >>be when she's grow up into children n adult, then it >>will show the different between vegan n non-vegan. >> >>So please, is there anyone with vegan baby since >>pregnancy and now is grow up into children/adult, >>please share with me what to notice n what to feed ? >> >>jeni >>-deeply confused/afraid/depress- >> >> >> ______________________________\ ____ >>Be a better pen pal. >>Text or chat with friends inside Mail. Guest guest
I get a good vitamin B12 boost every morning by eating a slice of whole grain toast with Marmite (nutritional yeast extract). It takes some getting used to, but once you *do* get used to it, you're addicted. Toast the bread, add some olive oil spread (or butter, if you're lacto), and then spread a thin layer of Marmite on top. Have a glass of orange juice with it. The opposites are lovely--warm salty toast, and cold sweet juice... yum! Marmite is packed with B12 as well as folic acid. It's an excellent vegetarian/vegan food that's been used in Europe and Australia for ages (although in Australia it's called vegemite). ...kerri
