50 horses to haul tea leaves-The Malay Mail

IN yet another event to add to the festivities of the 50th National

Day celebrations, a caravan of 50 horses will cart 50 tonnes of tea

leaves overland from Yunnan, China, to Terengganu and make its way to

Kuala Lumpur.

The two-month journey, which will pass through several Asean

countries, begins in September and is scheduled to reach the capital

in November, said organising committee chairman Datuk Abdul Aziz

Singah.

" In the old days, horses were used to carry tea leaves overland to

every nook and corner in China and we hope to relive the history, " he

told a Press conference in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Dubbed as the Tea and Horse Caravan Road, the event is organised by

Tea & Horse Caravan Sdn Bhd with the cooperation of the Palace of the

Golden Horses Hotel.

The 50 horses in the caravan represent the 50 years of Malaysia's independence.
