The Hindu has consistently been rated among the best English newspapers in the world and has a tie up with the Times of London.Times of India has a partnership with Reuters and BBC. Indian Express is reputed to be one of the leading dailies on investigative journalism. For change to happen, it must come from within. Foreign voice can help but change is unlikely to happen only because newspapers have the impression of having an international readership. Web based publishing means that most newspapers already have a substantial international audience. Times of India, Hindu and Indian Express have some of the most distinguished contributors writing from abroad. People writing from abroad could certainly have an influence but it is unlikely to be the sole influence. It is the local people dealing with the dog situation in Bangalore who must speak out their views convincingly to reach decision makers. 1. Guest guest
There is just no FIRE in the Animal Rights Movement of present day India. By now a delegation of Indian NGOs who have been working with dogs for quite sometime but have not been successful, should have been in New Delhi. I do not know if they have done so. But this is the time when they should be meeting with the Prime Minister, the President etc and find out speedy solutions to the problem. You have a fantastic opportunity when the media and the press is carrying this issue as headlines, go ahead grab that opportunity, issue press releases. Blaming it on the local municipal corporation will only get you local publicity. Think BIG, think for the whole of India. Do not be dependent on AWBI, if you want this issue to be dealt with firmly , you will not get a better opportunity than this. And most important of all, SHARE. Share what your individual organization is doing at this hour, at least on AAPN. Share it with the Press/Media, almost on a daily basis. So that they defend you whenever fingers are raised by the corporations on animal people. Be COHESIVE, and get UNITED. I am sure if someone can draft a press release on behalf of the Bangalore based organizations rather than each one of them running with their papers and getting the media person confused in the end. That would serve better. And most of all, send out a WARNING, that any negligence to the life of homeless animals would not be tolerated at ant cost. We need more FIREBRAND people like Smt Maneka Gandhi at this hour of crisis. You cannot get animals the rights that they deserve with just words full of compassion.
