Guest guest
Re Pablo's queries are below are these answers that I am sending on behalf of informed insider from Bangalore. -- 1. NGOs fear that culling of sterilized dogs have started. Any complaints of residents not wanting dogs in their area, will have to be addressed.......because of relentless public pressure, there are hundreds of complaints.....the meat shop, markets, railway stations etc. all have sterilized dogs but these may be killed, due to relentless media sensationalising the issue, beyond any rational norms. Some group, individuals, political bodies etc. maybe behind this whole thing, many citizens are seeing some kind of a plot unravelling to discredit the present Govt. 2. The Minister wants specifically to overturn the Animal Birth Control Rules, a part of the PCA Act. He is not bothered about anything else. Just wants legal sanction to killing, which presently is not allowed. 3. It may be effective in the short, cosmetic run......not sure about its long-term viability, since Karnataka is well known for corruption. All meat shops will be back after due payments to concerned authorities ! -------------------------- queries below: But just a few questions so that I can be clear and spread the messege to all the other activists in Bangalore: " Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Friday announced a raft of measures, including putting mad, ferocious and rabid dogs to sleep. All other stray dogs will be sterilised. " >> The " ferocity " of a dog would be determined by who and how? I am just concerned as they should not use vague terms and find an excuse to cull as many dogs as they find. " The Health Minister, explaining the legal hurdles that prevented the Government from killing dogs, said he would write to the Union Government to amend the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. " >> Do you people see any negative effects if the Act was to be amended??? " Mr. Jairaj said all unauthorised mutton stalls and those selling mutton on pavements would be immediately closed, as there were complaints that the stall owners threw leftovers out in the open, which dogs fed on . " >> I really think we need to press for a deadline else it will be just another " pot-hole free Bangalore promise " that was never met and then forgotten conveniently by the government and also the public!
