The article " Clubbed , Poisoned, Thrown out in the trash " with graphic photos of

these executions is in the 10 March edition of Mid-day, I couldn't find it

online

http://epapers2.mid-day.com/midday/scripts/epaper/epapermain.aspx or

www.mid-day.com

but if anyone wants this pdf file (scanned by Savitha Nagabhushan) email me and

I will send it to you.

The below two letters are referring to a previous article in Mid-Day. Many

letters must be being published but the last I saw The Times of India published

5 letters - two of them foreign, one from Phil Wollen and another from Animal

Advocates/Greece so clearly foreign letters have their weight.

The situation in Bangalore is by far not over in its scope and implications.

Dogs are more grateful

IN a recent edition of

MiD DAY, a Shiv Sena member (whose name if I remember well was Waikar) said that

stray dogs in the city should be denied any medical treatment. Rather, he

demanded, these innocent beings should be put to sleep.

This myopic extremist should first consider the rate at which the population in

this city is increasing, putting enormous pressure on its limited resources,

while inconveniencing the tax-paying citizens.

Stray canines must be treated with compassion and provided the necessary medical

aid. With a little bit of training it will be evident that they can be better

utilised to protect humans as they are comparatively sturdier and more street

smart than pure breed dogs.

It amazes me that it does not shame these hypocrites to use canines for bomb

squads, to protect selfish humans from harm or possible death.

Shivaji too was concerned about animals

I WRITE this with reference to the report 'Kuttey... main tera khoon pee

jaaonga!' (MiD DAY, February 12).

Ravindra Waikar should know that there are other more important issues in Mumbai

to deal with, other than the matter of stray dogs.

Besides, by supporting the killing of these innocent animals he is sending the

wrong message to other heartless people like him.

As a Shiv Sena member, he must know that even Shivaji Maharaj had concern for

animals. He was influenced by the saints who were great animal lovers.

Waikar also seems to have forgotten the principles of non-violence and respect

for life that are the highlights of the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi.

I thank MiD DAY for regularly taking up animal issues, which is also why I am

writing this message to your newspaper. I hope you will publish my message and

not disappoint me.

Chandra
