A great page of Times of India on March 10th, with letters published some of

them from " us " , and a pro dog cartoon; but could only find one one of the

articles them (below) online.

MUMBAI: Each one adopt one and no, this is not about literacy schemes, but a

novel idea to rid the streets of the stray-dog menace. A senior judge of the

Bombay High Court has suggested that each building in the city should adopt a

dog, as this would help tackle the menace of stray dogs, whose population has

jumped to six lakh in Mumbai.

Justice S Radhakrishnan, who heads a full Bench that's hearing a clutch of

petitions by animal welfare NGOs and other organisations on whether to lift the

1994 ban on killing of stray dogs, made this suggestion. The other judges on the

full Bench are Justices D B Bhosale and Vijaya Kapse Tahilramani.

Radhakrishnan said there are over 200,000 buildings in Mumbai. " Each building

can come forward to adopt a stray and may have to spend not more than Rs 500 on

its care, " he said. " In return, the dog will guard the society from intruders. "
