Guest guest
Dear all, One more case of elephant going berserk in Jaipur, this time the giant was owned by Rajkamal circus. The rampage occured on 22nd April at around 9 pm, after completion of the last show of the day when a naughty boy irritated the chained elephant by throwing stones at it. Enraged by this, the giant lost control, broke through its chains and started running berserk all over the place. It stepped upon and destroyed tents, posters, chairs amongst other things. Two mahauts got injured while trying to control it. Finally, forest department officials along with zoo vet Mr.Mohan Singh Choudhary arrived on the scene and controlled the animal by giving 3 shots with his tranquiliser gun. This circus had arrived in Jaipur 2 days ago . Thankfuly the spectators had left the circus area and so many lives were saved. Do we need to keep wild animals in this ghastly entertainment business? Life of an elephant is wholly miserable in such confined places. At the same time safety and life of the spectators and other performers are also at stake due to the huge size of the creature.. Elephants are wild animals and they belong to jungles and national parks. They are not at all fit for urban areas. Recently many similar incidents have shown us that no matter how much we try and claim to tame them their basic instinct remains wild. We must ban the use of elephants in all entertainment activities including circus, polo, tug of war etc. A resolution was passed in AFA 07 to ban the use of animals in entertainment and sports, I think it is high time we must look into this matter seriously and ban all such activities involving this Schedule I animal. With kind regards, Sincerely, Eti Vyas.
