By A City Reporter

GUWAHATI, Feb 18 – The enforcement agencies in the State will get a

stock of the wild life crime in the forests of the State and also

the tips to tackle it, through a workshop to be organized by the

Aranayak in the city. The three-day workshop, to be organized from

March 12, aims at sensitizing the officials on the aforesaid topic.

Talking to The Assam Tribune, the secretary general of Aranyak, Dr

Bibhab Talukdar said that the main resource person of the workshop

would be Shaun Rafel from UK who will present the international

perspective as well as the scenario of wild life crime and the

relevant laws in UK.

" In this workshop, which will be held at the Indian Institute of

Bank Management (IIBM), almost 40 participants from the forest,

police and customs departments will take part, " he said adding, " The

participants will be the officials who are mostly associated with

the field work. " The workshop will also form a network of the

enforcement agencies to deal with such crimes.

" The rate of incidents of wild life crime is alarming in the State

as well as in the region and thus sensitization of the enforcement

agencies becomes a vital fact and the workshop will apprise them of

the issues like threat on Rhino, elephants and the endangered

species of wild life, " Talukdar said. According to him the programme

will also deal with the some basic ideas like methods to detect such

crimes and the latest technologies available for that.

" We are in touch with the senior officials of the respective

departments to send their delegates and the local resource persons

are invited from the Wild Life Protection Society and also from

Guwahati High Court to deal with the legal standpoint of the issue, "

said Talukdar.
