Guest guest
Monday May 14, 2007-The Star Shocking example of inhumanity SAM is shocked at news report in a local daily in which it was reported that a pregnant buffalo was dragged and starved. Dragging the poor animal for 10km behind a four wheel drive constitutes the single most extreme example of man's inhumanity to another sentient creature. The unprofessional, aggressive and brutal handling of animals has no place in Malaysian society. Apart from being dragged through the streets it was also starved for six days until the owner took her back. SAM condemns in the strongest terms this disgraceful and irresponsible action committed by the team. It is wrong for animals to be treated in such a brutal and heartless manner which is not consistent with a proper value and respect for animal life. Animals are not to be used and abused. Any enforcement officer tasked with the responsibility of removing an animal from a public place should act with sense towards the animal, which is capable of feeling pain and extreme hunger. The buffalo had to pay a price for merely straying into a public area. Such atrocities towards a defenceless creature should not be condoned and SAM calls for a thorough investigation of the case by both City Hall and the State Veterinary Enforcement Unit. This is to ensure that those responsible be brought to book, SAM finally urges for a legislative review of animal laws covering a broader perspective of animal rights in the amendment to the Animal Ordinance 1952.
