A cosmos of celebs were packed cheek to chic during a hot summer's afternoon to support friends of the two and four legged variety, and to say the least, the Cartier Elephant Polo Cup 2006 added a beautiful blush to the Pink City over the weekend. A refreshing departure from the usual party regimen, this elaborate two-day affair hosted by Cartier's Patrick Normand and his sophisticated wife Piali, included a game of elephant polo, a lunch and two dinners (to be precise) and was soaked in elegance, befitting the class of the guests and the sponsors. The funds raised through the event will go to Help In Suffering (HIS) of Jaipur and the London-based Elephant Family, which work for elephant welfare. Incidentally, Mark Shand, the brother-in-law of Prince Charles and an activist involved with Elephant Family, was also among those present. " This was a very special event for us because it was associated with a brand like Cartier. The challenge was also in the logistics and since it involved very high profile people, the coordination required a very personalized approach. The 30 couples were put up in three different hotels and every little detail — right from the invite to the dedicated cars — was looked into very carefully, " said Bhavna Pandey, who co-organised the event with Jaiveer Panwar and made sure everything went like clockwork. The players included French actor Olivier Martinez (known as Kylie Minogue's boyfriend, and the lusted after hottie in 'Unfaithful'), supermodel Jacquetta Wheeler, Sangeeta and Azharuddin, photographer Sheena Sippy and BCCI vice president Lalit Modi. And those who cheered fiercely and passionately, in-between cucumber sandwiches and iced tea, were the likes of Parmeshwar Godrej, Maureen Wadia, Juhi Chawla, Farah Khan, Laila Khan Rajpal, Komal Wazir with husband Rajeev, Shobhaa and Dilip De and Sophie Choudhary, Rohit Bal, Arti and Kailash Surendranath, Queenie and Raja Dhody, amongst others. Bollywood was best represented by Preity Zinta, who made a brief but sparkling appearance (she took time off to be present despite being busy shooting for an Aditya Chopra film) and of course, Zayed and wife Malaika Khan, who didn't miss a minute of the action. Day affairs gave way to a ritzy dinner at the Oriental Garden at the Rambagh Palace where the fashionistas outdid themselves. Anna Singh looked stunning in a wedding jadau while Komal Wazir upped the style quotient in a Dior dress. t_priya http://www.newkerala.com/news4.php?action=fullnews & id=52834
