Pangolins are scaly, lizard-like ant-eating animals prized by some as a delicacy with nutritional and medicinal qualities. Laos has become a major smuggling route for wildlife, especially pangolin, from southern Thailand, Malaysia and other Southeast Asian nations to China which has a vast appetite for wildlife, Banyat said.
