Guest guest
Here is a list of the top Asian exporters of monkeys to the United States for the year 2006. The information was provided to IPPL by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Of course, many other countries import monkeys and some slip through the record-keeping. Most of the monkeys are crab-eating macaques. This species may be doomed if wholesale trade predation is not controlled. Some U.S. and European users are exporting their research to foreign countries with relaxed or no animal protection laws or enforcement. Such as two U.S. labs which are setting up branches in Nepal. Unfortunately many of these monkeys will already have been killed in bio-warfare or infectious disease experiments. Total primate imports to the United States in 2006 was 26,338. IPPL would be pleased to receive any information regarding any of these companies. Does anyone have similar statistics for other countries?
