Fashion Critics award for 'The Duchess of Dowdy'

Acerbic fashion critic Mr Blackwell names Britney Spears, Paris

Hilton and Camilla Parker Bowles (Duchess of Cornwall) as the

world's worst-dressed women in his annual list.

Even the Duchess of Cornwall's most ardent critics would surely

concede that Camilla has enjoyed a successful makeover befitting the

future Princess (or will it be Queen?) Consort.

 

Sadly, though, it hasn't been enough to stop the Prince of Wales'

second wife from being dubbed " the Duchess of Dowdy " and listed

second only to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton in fashion critic Mr

Blackwell's annual worst-dressed list.

 

It isn't the first time the Duchess has been singled out for cutting

criticism by Mr Blackwell. He previously condemned the then Mrs

Parker Bowles as displaying " the stylistic punch of a dilapidated

Yorkshire pudding''.

 

Despite the fact Camilla now enjoys access to some of the world's

top designers and fashion houses, including her favourites Robinson

Valentine, Blackwell cruelly condemns Prince Charles's 59-year-old

wife as a " royal wreck " , and polls her far lower than her 2001

ranking of eighth.

 

Says the famously outspoken and flamboyant critic: " The Duchess of

Dowdy strikes again. In feathered hats that were once the rage, she

resembles a petrified parakeet from the Jurassic age. "

 

It would appear Mr Blackwell is referring to Camilla's most recent

public appearance on Christmas Day, seen here, for which she wore a

rather daring feathered hat incorporating a leopard skin pattern.

 

In truth Camilla is fighting an uphill battle, not least with

comparisons invariably being made to the Prince of Wales' first

wife, the perpetually young Diana, a woman who was (and is)

frequently named amongst the world's greatest fashion icons and most

beautiful.

 

However, Camilla can rest assured that she's not the only famous

face to come in for some, at times, downright cruel criticism from

the famously acerbic Mr Blackwell.

 

Of Britney Spears and socialite Paris Hilton, who tied for the

number one spot of world's worst-dressed of 2006, Mr Blackwell

snipes: " Two peas in an over-exposed pod. "

 

Coming third in the top ten was actress Lindsay Lohan. She's

condemned for having turned " from adorable to deplorable " .

 

Also lining up in Mr Blackwell's hall of shame is pop star Christina

Aguilera, who is described as " all crass and no class. " Meanwhile,

Mariah Carey is written off as a " fashion pariah " and " the queen of

catastrophic kitsch " , while Sharon Stone is said to resemble " an

over-the-hill Cruella DeVille " .

 

However, Mr Blackwell shows he does have some good New Year cheer

for at least two famous faces, including one newly 'royal' figure.

 

Dame Helen Mirren — a.k.a. 'The Queen' — and her equally famous

British compatriot Kate Winslet are hailed as two of the past

year's " fabulous fashion independents " .
