Guest guest
If you happen to visit Jaipur you will find that the government is spending crores in the name of beautification of the Heritage city. New gardens, fountains and new places of interest are being created everyday and many projects are in pipeline. But, the most distressing fact is that Jaipur Zoo is in a very bad state, basic needs of the animals like fresh water, spacious and hygeinic cages are not fulfilled. And I must tell you that in the name of beautification of zoo 1 crore 28 lac rupees have been sanctioned and spent by the authorities. Due to lack of rains the water level is going down day by day in the city still the fountains in the gardens are running and the only place where they seem to save water is Jaipur Zoo. There is no water even for the ducks and cranes to swim. How can the zoo authorities be so insensitive towards the poor caged animals ? Zoos are Death Traps already for these animals as their lives are miserable over there. Rather than providing them a better living they are being deprived of their basic needs. Guest guest
Dear Raw Group, It it nice to read that you are interested in improvment of Jaipur Zoo. I can suggest you can do following thing: 1. Take visit in zoo with all your volunteers. 2. Take Photographs. 3. Try to measure the cage size also sketch down the replica or style of cages on paper. 4. Write down the conditions of animals, types of species etc. 5. Focus on injuries, wounds on animals, See that proper water, food, utensils are there or not! 6. Find out food timings, vety. check-up of aniamals. 7. Find the names of Vet in zoo, Incharge of zoo etc. 8. Then make a report which we at PAWS do every year. For copy of format you may log on www.karmayog.com & see Zoo Section. 9. Then under Right of Information Act get the info. on All details like food, cages & very imp. the funds utlisation part. 10. Make a small report on imrpovements & submit to the zoo incharge, get acknowledgment. 11. If the no action was taken in that month call the Media, Expose the condition of Zoo, send press release, give away photos to Press. 12. All press release or news whichever published get it photocopied & distribute to the visitors, Zoo officers, Staff. 13. Then Write a letter to Centra Zoo Authority (CZA), Animal Welfare Board (AWBI). Mark all CC to Smt. Maneka Gandhi mentioning the conditions of zoo. Also send copy of report to the Chief Wildlife Warden (CWW) of Rajasthan. 14. Send copies of letters to the NGO's you know, so that they will also write protect letters, e-mail against zoos (Like we at PAWS do for Bullock cart racing, we received over 300 E-mail in a week when I distributed the e-mail on AAPN Newtwork) 15. Use all the Networks to speakout the condition of ZOO, your updates. Share the info. When I made report on Mumbai Zoo - so called Vets, Zoologists critisized me for my spelling mistakes, bad english & also stamped that my report is not Scintific. When you make report get above error's corrected. Remember that zoo's are lifetime confinment for animals although they must be kept in any good condition. My Zoo report created huge problem Zoo caretakers. But my intention was just to speak out about the condition of animals & not troubling anyone. I hope this long e-mail will charge you to take-up zoo matter. I know people are busy in treating animals in Jaipur but Animal Rights part you can take-up.
