Fireworks send circus dog scampering into the dark - New Straits Times

06 Mar 2007

JOHOR BARU: It was a colourful Chap Goh Meh celebration at Danga Bay

on Saturday, but the thunderous fireworks caused panic among some

animals at a circus nearby.

The 20-minute fireworks display, beginning at 11pm, resulted in a

pedigree dog going berserk and pushing through perimeter fencing at

the circus grounds and escaping into the dark.

The dog, a Labrador named Max, is a key performer among five other

dogs at the Royal London Circus (RLC), which has been staging

performances at the bay since late last year. ----------The dogs

" dance and sing " and perform tricks.

RLC production manager Paul Lee said as Max " is part of our family and

means so much to us. I have a search team looking for the dog " .

Max, golden-brown in colour, was bred in Thailand and was popular with

the audience during the photography sessions at the end of each show.

RLC appealed to the public to contact the circus hotline at

07-2320501/0502 or 017-7130055 (Regina).

Circus dog dies in hit-and-run - New Straits Times

07 Mar 2007

Sim Bak Heng

JOHOR BARU: Max, the star of five Golden Labradors who " dance and

sing " at the Royal London Circus, used to entertain thousands of

circus lovers. But, now, he's dead.

The dog was found near a petrol kiosk in Jalan Skudai, with a head injury.

It is believed that he was the victim of a hit-and-run.

The pedigree dog and other animals of the RLC panicked because of the

thundering fireworks during Chap Goh Meh celebrations at Danga Bay on

Saturday, where the circus has been performing since late last year.

Max went berserk during the 20-minute display and pushed through the

fence around the circus grounds about 11pm, running off into the

darkness.

Circus staff went out in full force to search for him.

After 40 hours, an animal trainer found Max on the road about 500

metres from the grounds at 4.30pm on Monday.

He was buried on the circus grounds.

RLC production manager Paul Lee was shocked by Max's tragic death.

" Max was part of the circus family, and his death is a great loss to

us. We have lost a true star. He may be dead, but his memory will live

on in the circus. "

The gentle golden-brown dog was popular with audiences, who lined up

to have their pictures taken with him at the end of each show.
