thank you for the link to the information, now I understand completely and

this has helped very much. I wrote a small poem in defense of elephants

made to perform in this so called 'sport' and some words for you below,

THINK OF US

 

We are large and heavy and our feet are sore

We are part of a game with a tiny ball

There are long sticks and shouting,

We don't know the score,

We don't understand but we must go forth.

There is cheering and clapping,

We don't make a sound,

We tire very easily thudding the ground,

I find it hard to understand why people wish to see wild animals behaving

in an unnatural manner, in 2006? For entertainment? Whilst I understand

some funds raised from elephant polo matches is given to elephant

conservation societies, I would implore the organisers to find another way

to support charities caring for elephants. These highly intelligent and

gentle friends of the earth are of unique temperament and I believe using

their sensitive bodies to play games is betraying their trust.
