Guest guest
Please forward copies of this letter to Mr.Binoy Viswam,Forest Minister Kerala.India Sir, It is widely reported in various media that an elephant named Lakshmi " purchased " from Bihar six months ago by Poothakulam Shaji of Paravoor, Kollam gave birth to a young tusker on Monday, March 2007. As per the Central Declaration of Wildlife Stock Rules 2003, nobody can transfer any wildlife by any mode except by way of inheritance. It is evident that the said Mr.Shaji who " purchased " the said animal under Schedule [1] has violated the sections 40,42 and 43 of the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. It is further submitted that Mr. Shaji has violated sections 8 [12] and 12 [Q] of The Kerala Captive Elephant Management and Maintenance Rules [2003] and various rules under P.C.A.Act 1960 I earnestly request you proceed against the so called 'purchaser' of the schedule [1] animal and rescue the cow elephant and its calf from the offender who has violated section 57 also of W.P.A.1972. I expect a firm and fast action from you so that it would be an eye opener for such offenders who with impunity smuggle in elephants in large numbers to our state and engage in illegal and cruel practices. Sincerely yours A.G.Babu Member,Kerala State Sub-Committee[Animal Welfare Board of India] --\ --------------- Sivadam, Near Ramangalam Temple, Kavumpady, Muvattupuzha-686661
