Chance to help Animals! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~` 1. FROM THE DESK OF HONY. GEN. SECRETARY: This month our focus is on creating awareness on better pet care. PAWS receives several calls in which pet owners want to give away or dump their pets wherein due to family problems. NGO’s who work with time, space and money constraints are not equipped to shelter unwanted pets who suffer emotionally and physically when dumped by their owners. Keeping a pet brings in a moral responsibility to look after its health, food and all other needs. NGO’s are not dumping grounds for uncared Pets. Once the pet is abandoned it cannot survive and gets attacked by stray animals. It often gets injured in fights with other animals and sustains wounds which get infested with maggots - also it dies a cruel death of pain and starvation. In case of a family’s relocation or transfer the pet must be rehomed with the help of a local animal shelter or hospital. A pet sitting facility or private kennel can also be used. Consult an NGO for possible adoptions also. Never abandon a pet - Do you abandon your children if they are sick or your parents when they grow old? Think about Pets too - they are family also! Regards, Nilesh Bhanage …………………………………………………………………………… 2. SOME NOTABLE FIELD CALLS: ## On the 3rd of March PAWS founder Anuradha and volunteer Prasad rescued a tiny distressed chick while coming back from Murbad. It was treated by Dr. Mumbaikar. ## On receiving calls from the fire brigade office about a rescued kite and a barn owl from Dombivli East & West respectively, PAWS ambulance took them to Thane SPCA animal hospital where they are recuperating. ## When Mrs. Saraf’s housing society at Mira Road took objection to her feeding a stray dog in the society and threatened to send away the doog, she asked PAWS to help. PAWS secretary immediately sent a letter to the President of that Society explaining the law protecting animals from cruelty. PAWS office also counseled Mrs. Saraf that she should feed the dog outside the society gate. Apart from above calls PAWS Ambulances have been busy on streets helping injured stray animals every day. This year over 1200 injured stray animals were helped by PAWS. Our fuel cost goes more then 20,000 per month.
