Lucknow Zoo giraffe seriously injured during her transit to Mysore

A giraffe was seriously injured here when officials of Lucknow Zoo tried to

shift her to Mysore Zoo.

A female giraffe named Khushi was being sent to Mysore zoo from Lucknow zoo

in an exchange programme on Tuesday. Khushi got seriously injured while

being put in a crate used for transit.

The blame game has begun with Lucknow Zoo officials stating that crate

brought by Mysore Zoo officials, was too small for transfer of the animal.

" The transportation which we had used for the giraffe had enough space for

the giraffe to move around. The crate was at least twice the size of the

crate which you can see right now. There was proper cushioning on the floor

as well as on the wall of the crate, " said Eva Sharma, Director of Lucknow

Zoo.

On the other hand the Mysore zoo officials said that the bigger crate was

more harmful as it gave the animal " more space to kick " and get injured.

" If you have more area for animal it will try to kick. Now we have given it

enough room to sleep, rest and move around, " said R. Nanjappa, deputy

director of Mysore Zoo.

The crate had been kept in giraffe's enclosure for the past four days,

before it could be used to shift her to Mysore Zoo. (ANI)
