Guest guest
Good news for us all City witnesses peacock boom Hyderabad, Aug. 15: Peacocks are dancing once again in forests around the city. Delighted forest officials are attributing the increase in peacock population to good vegetation and stringent action against poachers and hunters. Chief Minister Y.S. Rajashekar Reddy ordered forest officials two years ago to undertake a scheme for increasing the number of peacocks. Following this, several measures were taken to protect peacocks, and they have borne fruit. Hyderabad forest range officer Janakiram said that there was a literal & #65533;population explosion & #65533; of peacocks in the forest blocks of Tumkunta, Narapally, Medipally and other areas. " They are also found in other pockets, " he said. Mr Janakiram said that stringent action was being taken against poachers and those who rear peacocks. Because of this, eight peacocks were handed over to the forest officials by people who were rearing them. Also, police is getting information of smugglers. Earlier this month, Keesara police caught a person who was trying to take a peacock out of the Dammaiguda forest block on a tip-off. " This year, there was also good breeding among the peacock population because of increased vegetation, " said Mr Janakiram. " Poaching has also come down. " However, sources said that poaching was still going on in Ranga Reddy district.
