Guest guest
Braveheart left to die-Malay Mail - 4th Jan 2007 by RAHMAN DAROS FOR weeks, Braveheart, a six-year-old mongrel was left unattended in a cage with no food, little water and festering wound full of maggots. Fortunately, a Federal Territory Veterinary Services enforcement team found the dog in a double-storey house in Taman Bukit Cheras on Saturday. The team was tipped off by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) on the condition of the dog. The unit chief, Zainuddin Isma Yatim, who led the team, said the dog had a huge growth on its testicles when they found it. " The dog was caged in an unbearable condition. It could have been left in the cage for weeks. The dog was skinny and had inflamed skin,he said. The tenant was not in during the raid. " We are trying to locate the tenant who is responsible for Braveheart's condition. A notice was also left on the door which required the tenant to contact us. " This is a case of negligence as the tenant didn't bring his dog to a veterinary clinic for treatment, said Zainuddin. Following that, the dog was taken to the department's hospital for treatment before it was handed to the SPCA. The department's veterinarian, Dr Mas Ayu Suraya Abdul Rahman, said the growth on the testicles, which is about 15cm in diameter, could have resulted from a small wound. Dr Mas Ayu said this could be a case of negligence. " I think the dog was left unattended for about a month. A wound can turn into pus if it's left untreated before maggots set in,she said. FT Veterinary director Dr Shariffuddin Masruni said the owner of the dog might face legal action.
