Message from Azam :

Section 144 was imposed in Jaipur today so that there could be no overt

signs of people protesting the event in public. All the protests planned

were peaceful but the organisers were scared. 18 activists were arrested

from different organisations all over India. However material for the media

was distributed and news reports on the protest are expected to come out .

Celebrities who attended the event were Mohammed Azharuddin, former Indian

cricket captain, and his wife Sangeeta Bijlani and actor Chunkey Pandey

among others. More details will emerge after the activists are released.

Following are the names of the animal right activists who staged

demonstration and were arrested half way and detained by the

Rajasthan Police:

1. Naresh Kadyan, President, PFA- Haryana

2. Snehal Bhatt, Chairperson, Gujrat-SPCA

3. N.G. Jayasimha,Sachin and another PETA-India activist

4. Anupam Jain, RAW ( Revolutionaries for Animal Rights )

5. Ranjit, Ranjit for Animals

The rest were members of RAW.

They were taken to the Jhotwara Police Station, 40 minutes distance

from the venue.

The District Administration felt it was better not to take any

chances as considering the global uproar on this 'elephant polo'

controversy, that is why SEC 144 was imposed near the venue of the

event to prohibit gathering of people.
