Guest guest
Dear Dr.Tatwany, I am concerned to know that as a CITES representative for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, you still retain a baby orangutan confiscated from a Riyadh pet shop on 15 June 2005. I know you have confirmed this orangutan was illegally-imported into Saudi Arabia. What I do not understand is why you, with all the powers and resources of CITES behind you, have not returned this highly-endangered orangutan to Indonesia. Eighteen months of official complacency is the only reason I can think of for this very long delay. Quite apart from the harm done to the orangutan by keeping it caged and delaying its repatriation to the forests of Indonesia, this sensitive matter is bringing shame on both CITES and Saudi Arabia. I urge you to find it in your heart to return this orangutan to Indonesia before the end of this month. Until you do, concerned people like me will keep writing to both you and the people copied into this letter. If you need assistance, please contact www.born-to-be-wild.org I look forward to hearing from you. Yours sincerely, Maria and Katerina Nika, Animal advocates from Greece
