Hordes of migratory birds arriving in Kaziranga National Park

From Our Correspondent

GOLAGHAT, Jan 21 – Flocks of Pelican and other migratory birds have

been arriving in Kaziranga National Park. The Agartali range has now

become a birds' haven. The foreign tourists are also enjoying the

sight of the beautiful birds. It may be mentioned here that at the

beginning of autumn, the Pelicans fly over to Koladuar Beel in the

Agartali range of the KNP from Siberia.

Recently, a Siberian tourist came to KNP and this corespondent met

him at KNP. He said that the suitable place for Pelicans was

Kaziranga for its congenial environment. He further said that the

Pelicans return to Siberia from Kaziranga in the month of March and

the number of Pelicans increase in Siberia during the month of March

and upto June. As the suitable place of Pelicans is Kola Duar Beel,

the Agartali range of the KNP this place is called as the Pelican

Colony. The birds after breeding in that area fly off to Siberia in

the first part of March. Forest sources said, that this year the

number of Pelicans have been increasing and a new Pelican colony

near-Kholimari Beel has been arranged. Other birds like Dhitraj,

Sarali, Deorajduck, Telia Sareng, Chakor Chokuwa which are all

migratory birds have also arrived at KNP attracking the foreign

tourists.

But on the flip side, migratory birds coming from different

countries to KNP have created to fear psychosis among the tourists

and neighbouring people, due to the birds flu. But the CCF told the

newsmen that in KNP the birds have carried no virus of birds flu as

the FD had taken all steps against the Virus H5N1.
