> 2. SOME NOTABLE FIELD CALLS:

> # This Month PAWS of received a call from Manpada Road at Dombivli, about

> a dog that had fallen from the third floor. The a dog was rushed to

> IDA's hospital at Mumbai, and could survive due to the timely treatment

> by Dr. Guruprasad Mahadik. It seems that the society gatekeeper had

> unknowingly locked the door of the terrace when the dog was asleep, and

> finally jumped down in a bid to escape.

>

> # Dedicated PAWS volunteer Mira Desai & her daughters who looks after

> several stray dogs in Gograswadi area were harassed by neighbors who were

> against theirr dog feeding activity. The neighbors filed a police complaint

> against the dog loving family at the Ramnagar police station. Since PAWS

> had already got all the dogs vaccinated & sterilized, Nilesh, Chetan &

> Prasad went to police station to explain and on their insistence the Police

> understood and solved the case amicably.

> # On 14th May PAWS office received call about an Owl being attacked by

> crows at Manpada Junction. PAWS representatives Nilesh & Kishor went to the

> spot & immediately rescued the owl. The owl which was not much injured

> was released the same night.

> # On 24th of May, PAWS Secretary Mr. Nilesh received a call from a

> resident of Pendse Nagar that a crow had got badly entangled to a string on

> a branch of a tall tree. PAWS with the help of the Fire Brigade of MIDC,

> rescued and released the crow immediately.

> Apart from above calls, PAWS Ambulances were busy on the suburban streets

> helping injured stray animals every day. In year 2006-07 over 1200 stray

> injured animals were picked-up from streets by PAWS. Our fuel costs more

> then 20,000 per month.

> 1. ANNUAL ANTI-RABIES DRIVE AT DAHISAR

> PAWS volunteers from Dahisar Mrs. Vera Anthony, Ms. Rohini Banarjee & Ms.

> Bernadine Pramodhan organized an Anti-Rabies drive in Dahisar at the IC

> extension colony on First May. PAWS team included Lekha, Kishor, Sherlyn,

> Nilesh, Darshana, Prasad, Kunal & Chetan joined. More then 53 stray dogs

> were vaccinated by PAWS .We wound up with a lunch party at Bernadine's

> place.

> 5. TRUSTEE TO RESCUE

>

> PAWS trustee and President of Andheri based NGO- Association for Service &

> Healing of Animals (ASHA) Brinda Upadhyaya learnt that a snake had found its

> way into a housing society and was being handed over to a rural snake

> charmer. She intercepted this by requesting the members of the Housing

> society to not hand it over to the charmer. She along with the housing

> society member made the snake charmer release the beautiful rat snake in

> the mangroves at Andheri west. This way the charmer could not get hold of

> the snake which found its freedom in its natural habitat.

> 6. BI-ANNUAL VACCINATION CAMP FOR DONKEYS @ KALWA:

> Every year PAWS, vaccinates donkeys that are used for carrying

> construction material . This year PAWS organized its PRE-MONSOON

> DRIVE in Thane. This camp was organized by Anuradha Ramaswamy who is

> associated with PAWS since its inception. PAWS volunteers including Nilesh,

> Kishore, Sherlyn & Lekha gave a helping hand.

> This drive will continue this month before the heavy rains start.

> 6. VEGETARIAN RECEIPE:

>

 

 

 

> Ingredients:

> 2 Cups Flour

> 3 Teaspoons Baking Powder

> 1 Teaspoon Salt

> ¼ Cup Vanspati

> ¾ Cup Milk

>

> Method:

>

> Sift all the dry ingredients into a bowl and stir them. Add the vanaspati

> and milk and mix into dough. Gather the dough into a large ball and roll it

> out on a surface coated with flour. Cut into round biscuits. Bake in a

> greased, baking sheet at 475 F for 12-15 minutes.
