My first share from a local CSA (organic produce)

How and where to get quality organic produce comes up fairly often on this list,

so I thought I would share a recent experience with you.

 

I used a website similar to this one:

to locate a CSA farm near me. I contacted them and arranged to purchase a

small share of their crop for the whole season. Prices probably vary, but mine

is $250 for 18-20 weeks of organic produce. I wasn't sure I what to expect, and

decided that conservative was the safest bet and went with a small share. They

have three different pick up times during the week, and I selected to meet them

at the farmer's market on Saturday morning. All of the shares are picked and set

aside, what remains is what they sell at the farmers market to the public. I

was very pleased with the quality and as the season goes on the variety and

quantity will increase. The share this week had romaine, spinach and radishes.

(We are in Iowa, and there just isn't much ready yet.)

 

Dh wasn't very excited about trying a CSA, so we planted a garden again this

year anyway. I am hoping if the CSA experience goes well we won't need to plant

much next year.
