Dear All,

It was indeed a wonderful to have Smt. Maneka Gandhi attend all three

days of the " Asia for Animals " 2007 conference at Chennai which

concluded on 13th January`07.

Smt. Gandhi was very instrumental in highlighting specifically the

need of the hour and highlighting the drawbacks of the near defunct

Animal Welfare Board of India, and debating the flaws in length.

A courageous woman as always, she has been the inspiration for

hundreds of young and old animal rights activists across India and

the world who in some way or the other have always looked upon time

and again.

I am sure the Indian organisations and the Indian press and media

would certainly have benefited from the presence of Smt. Gandhi as

without her being there many issues may not have been discussed or

highlighted on the " Asia for Animals " forum in such depth.

One thing I have learnt from Smt. Gandhi is that no matter how small

or how weak you are, if you are determined and focussed in life you

are bound to succeed someday.

nteracting with the foreign delegates I have come to know that most

of them wish that they had soemone like Smt. Gandhi in their country

as well. Most of them had heard of her, but after seeing her and

listning to her arguments and debates they were simply touched by the

passion the lady carries for animal rights.

The best part of Smt. Gandhi`s presence was when the resolutions were

passed. Most of the burning topics and issues not only concerning

India but across the globe related to animal welfare / rights was

dealt firmly including a " Ban on Animal in Entertainment " , this also

includes the aspire for a complete " A Ban on Elephant Polo in Asia.

I am sure post " Asia for Aniamls 2007 " India will emerge as a more

humane nation if the promises of the Animal Welfare Board of India,

and all concerned is practiced soon.

Regards,

Azam Siddiqui
